Margaret Thatcher – The Iron Lady

13.10.1915 – 08.04.2013

Prime Minister, politician, lawyer, chemist, English

In 1979, Margaret Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom—a position she held until 1990.

Margaret Thatcher was a controversial head of government who led major societal changes in the United Kingdom. She was known for her unbending will and was nicknamed “the Iron Lady”. Her critics claim that she created a more unequal and divided society, while her supporters believe that the reforms restored British competitiveness in the international economy.

Through my portraits and my writing about Margaret Thatcher, I tell the story of a woman who very much went against the current of her time and the expectations placed on women in a world where the political stage, locally and globally, was dominated by men. I am inspired by her fearlessness and her steadfast belief in her own abilities, views, and opinions.
